Wegovy

About Wegovy (Semaglutide)
What is Wegovy?
Wegovy® is a weight loss drug, a GLP-1, Semaglutide injection that normalises your appetite and reduces cravings. It can be a very effective medication to help you achieve long term weight loss combined with a reduced calorie diet, increased physical activity and healthy lifestyle changes.
How Does it work?
Semaglutide, the active ingredient in Wegovy, is a synthetic version of a hormone called glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), produced in the gut after a meal. GLP-1 is involved in glucose metabolism and acts as a hunger hormone, communicating with the brain to indicate when you are full. Semaglutide is highly effective in helping many people establish consistent eating patterns and achieve a healthy body weight. It works by:
- Managing Hunger:It is similar to a hormone that your body naturally produces and which acts on the areas of the brain that control hunger.
- Feeling of fullness: It reduces the rate at which food passes through your system, so you feel fuller for longer between meals
- Encourages healthy eating:Fewer cravings mean you can develop a regular eating pattern that you can maintain for longer and develop healthy habits.
How do I use Wegovy?
Wegovy is injected subcutaneous injection (under the skin) once weekly. At MenoClinic,we will teach you how to properly injection Wegovy, how to safely handle it and how to rotate injection sites to help ensure that treatment is as comfortable and effective as possible.
What dosage of Wegovy will I need?
Treatment usually starts with a lower introductory dose 0.25mgto allow your body to adjust. The dose is then gradually increased at intervals of 4 to 12 weeks based on your tolerance and clinical response, to the highest maintenance dose of 2.4mg or your target weight. Your MenoClinic clinician will customise a dosing schedule for you and carefully monitor your response closely.
